Today is my birthday and it is a big one… The big 50!! I rarely, well actually have never, designed a set of cookies for myself, but I think turning 50 deserves a set.
I am a fall October girl, so to me that automatically equals pumpkins to me. But I wanted to have more than just pumpkins. The other day I was pulling out of our driveway and I looked at the fall wreath I have on our front door which has fall leaves, pumpkins and squashes, and raffia. Yes, raffia. That was perfect! But now I needed something to go with the raffia and what goes better with raffia than roses. So there you go… Pumpkin Cookies with Ribbons and Roses.
I bought several sets of fall cookie cutters at Hobby Lobby over the last few weeks and I had two identical pumpkins, so I reshaped one of the cutters to be the tall pumpkins to add a little variety. And then since these were birthday cookies, I used a present cookie cutter.
I used the Wilton Color Right System to create the icing colors. The orange, red, green, and brown are all from there Autumn color combinations. For the purple, I used the neon color combination and added a little brown to warm it up.
I love icing pumpkin cookies, because it is so easy to make a cute cookie. Just start off by adding some sections spaced apart. Let the icing dry for about 30 minutes and then go back and add the other sections. This was you will have the pumpkin ribbing.
I let the icing dry overnight before adding the ribbons, roses, stem, and leaves. The roses are royal icing transfers and I had also make them the day before. They are really easy to make and add such a nice touch. This is a great royal icing rose video!
The presents are decorated the same as the pumpkins, but they are presents.
And the finished cookies. I love them!!! They are one of my favorite sets 🙂
